Kombo TAV: innovation for the Packaging Industry

Kombo TAV

Hamburg, Germany (Fespa – 24th May 2011) - From the initial launch of the Kombo TAV during Viscom 2010 in Milano, to the first installations, the latest Elitron innovation specifically engineered for the packaging sector is now operative in the packaging market with the early adopters already reaping the benefits. Others are currently being installed and more installations are programmed for the forthcoming quarter.
Initial feedback from clients is extremely positive and the new Elitron solution for the packaging industry has already been nicknamed The Packaging Revolution. The concept of non-stop production and finishing has been truly revolutionised by the Kombo TAV with its perfect mix of innovation and technology. The ideal cutting solution for continual production runs, whilst remaining agile and flexible in order to facilitate rapid changing production, as well as any last minute changes.

What distinguishes the Kombo TAV in today’s market?
The Kombo TAV is equipped with an integrated automatic loading and unloading system which fully automates the production process. This however is certainly not new…What distinguishes the Kombo TAV and the technological evolution is the presence of two cutting heads, together with the Seeker System TM that reads printed images from the underside as well as the Airo Technology, the new Elitron patent, which facilitates perfect unloading of worked materials time after time.
These 3 Plus stand the Kombo TAV apart from other products currently present in the market.

Plus 1: Two Independent Cutting Heads

With a cutting speed of up to 106 metres/minute and two independent cutting heads which operate non-stop, productivity takes a giant leap forward: practically two cutting systems in one. Each cutting head is equipped with different tools: blade, creasing wheel, probe tool (to determine material height), pen module and laser pointer. Thanks to Elitron’s Twin Cut software, the workload of the job in hand is automatically distributed between both cutting heads thus optimising the production yield and considerably reducing production times. Kombo TAV is specific for cardboard, corrugated cardboard, lightweight card, plastic materials, honeycomb materials, graphic boards, and many more…

Plus 2: Seeker System™

Seeker SystemTM is the only intelligent camera system able to automatically recognise the material and any printed images regardless of their position. Already installed in the Kombo SD for the Digital Printing sector, the Seeker System technology is also present in the Kombo TAV. Seeker recognises any printed images on the material that is to be worked, and on the Kombo TAV this reading is done from the underside. The moment the material is rapidly moved from the pallet onto the working area, Seeker System comes into action: automatically reading the reference points and automatically loading the relative cutting file. The operator has only to select what has to be worked and confirm to start the rapid finishing process. Materials are completely cut without leaving any of the classic “attach points” however there is no problem to then remove the cut materials, as Airo System takes care of complete unloading.

Plus 3: Reduced Loading Time and Perfect Unloading thanks to Airo Technology

Following rapid loading of materials onto the working area and highly efficient, high quality cutting and finishing, unloading could not be anything less. The final unloading process is guaranteed using Airo Technology, a state-of the-art patent from Elitron. The worked material is automatically unloaded from the working area using strong suction panel, and then moved to the unloading bay where it is stacked on the waiting pallet. This continual, automatic process prevents any of those production blockages caused by waste material being left on the working area. Thanks to this new Elitron patent the working area is always completely cleared in order that the production process can continue automatically with a new sheet.

This innovative finishing system is the result of intense Research & Development, as well as first hand knowledge and technological know-how that Elitron has acquired through different industrial applications in different sectors: from the footwear and leather sector, to furniture, composites and foam to the Digital Printing and Packaging industries. One of the distinctive characteristics of Elitron is the ability to keep a keen ear to the ground, listening to market requirements and individual customer needs, in order to develop quality projects inline with real needs, using and redesigning technologies and knowledge acquired for other uses or sectors.
The first Open-House specifically for the Kombo TAV will take place in June 2011 in Italy and preparations are already underway. Thereafter, Elitron will be rolling out demonstrations in the main European markets and following that worldwide.
Elitron will use this event to demonstrate the full potential of this new system for the packaging sector and to demonstrate the Kombo SD for those who have not yet been introduced to this other revolutionary cutting solution for the Digital Printing sector. The Kombo SD was first presented at Fespa last year. It has a distinctive Italian design, with the possibility to personalise the cutting head using a selection of more than 20 accessories, the Kombo SD can be interfaced with all types of printing software and is able to agilely cut all materials used in the Digital Printing sector.

The uniqueness of the Elitron finishing system for the Digital Printing sector is illustrated by the perfect integration of the Kombo SD with the Seeker System™: the refined image and reference point reader. On this system once more the Seeker is unparalleled: after having recognised the materials on the working area, and any printed images, automatically the relative cutting files are loaded and after having checked the exact position of the images, the precision finishing starts and all in perfect autonomy. The operator has then only to unload the cut materials.
If the Kombo SD and Kombo TAV could speak, they’d say “they take care of the rest!”
